Gawain and the Green Knight This festive tale of Arthurian legend tells of a Green Knight who arrives at Camelot on New Year’s Eve to propose an extraordinary challenge: he offers to receive an axe blow from any knight present but in a year’s time the same knight must travel to the Green Chapel to suffer this blow in return. It is Arthur’s young nephew, Gawain, who takes up the challenge. And it is his adventures of sorcery, suspense and seduction which explores what it means to be a true knight of the Round Table in one of Britain’s oldest and most mysterious Christmas stories. |
